Energy & Resilience
87% Grid Independence for Regional Energy Cooperative
Key outcome
87% grid independence
The Challenge
A 12-site regional cooperative was dependent on grid imports for 73% of their energy load, facing volatile pricing and exposure to grid instability — despite having significant solar generation capacity that was poorly coordinated across sites.
What We Built
We designed and deployed a sodium-ion battery backbone across all 12 sites, integrated with a distributed energy management system that optimises local generation, storage dispatch, and import timing across the whole cooperative as a single virtual plant.
The Result
Grid independence reached 87% within 18 months of deployment. Energy costs reduced by 41%. The cooperative now operates as a flexibility resource, generating revenue from grid balancing services that offset the remaining import costs.
